This summer, we’re pairing great wine with great wine movies for a virtual tasting series that’s fun, relaxed, and just the right amount of geeky.
Introducing Sip Back & Press Play, a three-part virtual wine tasting series featuring six wines, three wine-themed movies, and live Zoom discussions where we’ll sip, laugh, learn, and talk about the stories behind the glass.
You’ll receive six bottles of wine delivered to your door, then join me for three Wednesday evening tastings. Each session will feature one movie and two wines connected to the theme of the night.
Watch the movie on your own before each session, pour the featured wines, and then join us live on Zoom for the discussion.
Sign up by Sunday, July 12 for just $129 delivered! Your wines will be delivered during the following two weeks.
Then we’ll meet live on Zoom for three Wednesday night sessions:
• Wednesday, July 22 at 7pm Central
• Wednesday, August 5 at 7pm Central
• Wednesday, August 19 at 7pm Central

6 bottles of wine
3 live Zoom tasting sessions
2 wines featured per movie
Movie discussion notes and tasting guidance
A fun summer wine experience from home
A $50 coupon off your next wine order
That means you get the wines, the live tastings, the movie-night experience, and a bonus coupon to keep your wine rack stocked after the series.
We’ll kick things off with Bottle Shock, the feel-good wine movie inspired by the legendary Judgment of Paris, the blind tasting that changed the wine world forever.
Since this year marks the 50th anniversary of the Judgment of Paris, we’ll use this session to talk about why that moment mattered so much, how California wine shocked the French establishment, and what it teaches us about reputation, blind tasting, and keeping an open mind.
And of course, we’ll taste two Chardonnays side by side:
Chateau de la Chaume Chablis (2023, $86.99)
A classic unoaked French Chardonnay from Burgundy with citrus, apple, pear, bright acidity, and flinty minerality.
Deepwood Cellars Monterey Chardonnay (2023, $35.99)
A California Chardonnay from Monterey with ripe citrus, guava, orange peel, tropical fruit, a touch of oak, and a rounder mouthfeel.
It’s the perfect way to taste the “Old World vs. New World” conversation in real time.
Movie available with a Prime Video subscription or for free with ads on Roku Channel, Tubi, and PlutoTV.
Our second session dives into Sour Grapes, the fascinating documentary about one of the biggest wine fraud scandals in modern history. This night will be part wine tasting, part detective story.
We’ll talk about:
How wine labels tell a story
Why certain bottles become collectible
What makes older wines so intriguing
How prestige, rarity, and reputation can create both magic and mischief
What everyday wine drinkers can learn from the world of high-end wine collecting
Our featured wines:
Barolo di Barolo (2019, $98.99)
A powerful Nebbiolo from one of Italy’s most famous wine regions, with structure, depth, age-worthiness, and classic old-world character.
St. Emilion Bordeaux (2020, $78.99)
A Right Bank Bordeaux featuring Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, with ripe fruit, spice, oak notes, silky tannins, and a long finish.
This will be a really fun session for anyone who loves wine stories, mystery, labels, history, and the idea that every bottle has a little bit of intrigue behind it.
Movie available with a Prime Video subscription or for free with ads on Roku Channel, Tubi, and PlutoTV.
We’ll wrap up the series with Uncorked, a heartfelt Netflix film about family, ambition, wine education, and finding your own path.
This session will focus on the world of wine training and the question a lot of people wonder about:
How do people actually learn about wine?
We’ll talk about wine education, tasting confidence, restaurant wine culture, and how to keep learning without making wine feel intimidating.
Then we’ll bring it home with a very summer-friendly topic... pairing wine with BBQ!
Our featured wines:
Murder of Crows Shiraz (2024, $27.99)
A rich, semi-dry Australian Shiraz with blackberry, dark plum, poached berries, spice, dark chocolate, espresso notes, supple tannins, and a velvety finish. Perfect with smoked beef ribs, pulled pork, lamb chops, and grilled sausages.
Rainbow and the Rose Rosé (2025, $28.99)
A refreshing, brand-new Australian rosé with rose petal, wild strawberry, cherry blossom, watermelon, cranberry, and a lightly sweet, juicy finish. Great with salty snacks, spicy foods, fiery chicken, and summer BBQ favorites.
This final session will be fun, flavorful, and probably make you very hungry.
Movie available with a Netflix subscription.
The movies are not included with the wine package, so you’ll watch each movie on your own before the live session. Then we’ll gather on Zoom to discuss the film, taste the wines, and connect the themes of the movie to what’s in our glasses.
You don’t need to study anything. This is not homework. It’s movie night with better wine. 🍿🍷

Each discussion will be recorded so you can catch up. In addition, you'll have a discussion forum inside a private membership area where you can share your insights or questions with others!
Can I have friends join me?
Absolutely! Movies and wine are best enjoyed with firends and family, so please invite others over to share in the viewing and tasting!
Do I drink the featured wines during the movie or the live discussion?
Either works! You'll have two wines, so you may opt to enjoy one with the movie and one during the live discussion. Whatever works for you!
I really only like a certain type of wine, so can I change the wines?
We will all be sampling the same six wines, as I want you to explore your palate and try each wine selected with the paired film and food suggestions. You never know when you might find a new wine style to enjoy!
Is the technology hard to use?
No. We'll be using Zoom, and you'll receive a link that can easily be accessed from any computer, tablet, or smartphone!
What's the catch? This sounds too good.
